Why ALL Your Clients Need Kerageen!

So you’ve tried Keragreen and love it. It’s now a staple in your salon, offering your guests shiny, silky, manageable hair. But are you aware you’re missing out on a huge part of the market?

Long locks are no longer specific to one gender. With the man bun and long, flowy do’s gaining popularity, there’s a trend that’s been growing — both literally and figuratively — over the past year or two. Do you realize which potential clients you may have overlooked when speaking about Keragreen? That’s right! Light bulb moment!

Husbands, brothers, fathers, friends- they all have one thing in common when it comes to their long hair. They want to be trendy and rock their longer mane but often don’t know how to care for it. Frizzy buns and poofy ponytails should be a thing of the past! Take a look at Jason Mamoa, Jared Leto, Harry Styles, Leonardo Dicaprio, Orlando Bloom and many more! This isn’t a trend that’s being cut anytime soon!

Now here’s where you come in. Education, education, education- and Keragreen! It’s likely these potential clients (especially the newbies) won’t pull out a flat iron or round brush every morning to tame their mane, wouldn’t you agree? But if they were offered a quick, in salon service that would make every day easier, without the added stress of hot tools, don’t you think they would jump on board the Keragreen frizz free train? We sure do think so!

We love the trend – when executed properly. Help ensure ALL your clients stay healthy, shiny, and frizz free! Offer Keragreen!

With all this new potential, how will you put this idea to good use in your salon?

How to Battle the Static!

How to Battle the Static!

Is static ruining your good hair vibes? Follow these tips from Keragreen for a static free Fall and Winter!

Why does static happen? Static happens when your hair becomes charged with electricity. Electricity, atoms… blah, blah, blah. Most of you probably don’t care about the science behind it, you just want a solution to the bad hair days ahead. Static hair is the perfect example of when opposites attract, all in the name of ruining a good hair day. And what are you left with instead? Crazy locks that make it look like you stuck your finger in an electrical socket. Yikes!

As if cold weather and dry air weren’t bad enough, now we have to also deal with this ultimate hair raising experience, literally. The dry air and reduction of moisture in our hair loads our hair up with electricity, unfortunately making us all targets. At least we’re not alone, right?

Good thing there are a few simple things you can do to combat it – keep reading and we’ll share our tips and tricks with you! Because ain’t nobody got time for bad hair days!

You know those amazing scented sheet things you throw in the dryer when you do laundry? Well, start throwing a couple in your purse and desk now too. Not only do they make your clothes smell amazing, they also work like magic in your hair! I know, who would have thought!? The sheets will actually neutralize the charge and rid you of your static filled bad hair day.

Keep one in your pocket, one in your car… you get the drift. Try rubbing the dryer sheets on your hair brush too,  it will reduce even more static.

Leave in treatments, such as Kera Hydrate or hair oil like Keragreen Revive will also help combat the static for you! In the summer, they’re a game changer for your frizz and in the cooler months they still stand by you and keep the static at bay. These two products are year round life savers!

Keragreen Revive contains both Olive oil and Argan oil but coconut oil will also do the trick. Don’t go overboard with application, especially if you’re taking the coconut oil route. A little goes a long way!

No dryer sheets, leave-in or oil? How about hand cream? Dig to the bottom of your purse and see what you’ve got! The added moisture will be a godsend to your hair and your hands.

Squeeze just a pea size amount, rub in your hands and then quickly run it through your hair. Just a tiny bit will do the trick in getting your static hair under control in a pinch.

If you have a plastic comb or a hair brush, get rid of it. They may look harmless, but using them is not a good idea during the cooler months. Plastic is non-conductive which equals more frizz. Opt for a wooden or metal comb, as those are conductive and thus – will get rid of static in hair. Again, we won’t bore you with the science behind it, just trust us. Not to mention they are both more environmentally friendly than plastic, so why not benefit the environment and your hair!

If you’re wondering how to start battling the static right from the shower, think about how often you shampoo your hair in a week. Shampooing your hair 2-3 times a week is optimal. That’s right ladies and gentlemen, please not every day! Shampoo has harsh detergents that strip your hair of moisture and don’t allow the hairs natural oils to work their magic.

Don’t skip out on conditioner either, always use it after shampooing. Try the Keragreen Protein shampoo and conditioner as they are very moisturizing and don’t contain drying ingredients like alcohol.

If your hair is dehydrated it is more likely to conduct an electric charge causing static. By shampooing less and using a high-quality conditioner, you can improve the quality of your hair and help to get rid of static hair in the long-term.

The Hottest Hairstyles, Cuts and Hair Care Trends

The Hottest Hairstyles, Cuts and Hair Care Trends

From the colors we choose to dye our locks to the cuts we sport each season, every lap around the sun presents a new opportunity to upgrade and transform our hair. Runways, fashion houses, celebrities, political events, influencers and a slew of other factors impact what is considered modern and Instagram-worthy. Here’s what the experts predict for hair color, styles and advancements you’ll definitely be hearing about.

Caring For Your Locks

If you haven’t already, expect to see major shifts in the hair care industry, influenced by skin care and the wellness movement. We’re talking about scalp treatments, hair serums, leave in hair treatments and more anti-aging ingredients like l-cysteine, essential oils, amino acids and other antioxidants , all infused in your daily shampoos and treatments. Shoppers are looking to improve the quality of their hair with skin-care grade ingredients. Brands like Keragreen are responding by using high quality ingredients and marketing around the importance of building a solid hair care regimen. Remember, the scalp is also skin and therefore deserves the same amount of care.

Super Shiny Hair.

Remember when models walked down the runway sporting hair that looked wet in the 1990s? Welp, it’s back! 2019 has sparked a rebirth of celebrities showing off their slick locks. Extra glossy, straight hair is and will continue to be in the coming months.

Not everyone’s hair is obedient enough to remain straight, so thankfully, there are products in the Keragreen line that we recommend to keep your hair soft and shiny. You’ll definitely need a high-shine miracle worker like Keragreen Silk or Kera Revive to add to your regime. Adding shine to the hair while taming frizz and static without weighing hair down is the goal. Ingredients like collagen, silk, olive oil and argan oil are key components to achieving this trend of healthy, shiny hair.

Bangs, bangs, bangs.

Not everyone has the face shape—or the patience—to pull off bangs, but if you’ve always wanted to give it a go, consider scheduling an appointment with your hairstylist to discuss a game plan. Retro-futurist bangs, bobs and bowls are coming back strong this year and the ’80s short hair is gaining popularity. It’s also made its way to high fashion, since Givenchy and Miu Miu both picked bob cuts in Milan and Paris.

If you’re ready to take the plunge and go bold, he recommends using a cream styling product when you dry your hair to keep ends smooth and tame. Keragreen leave in treatment Kera Hydrate is our top pick. A little goes a long way and the scent in unreal.  With the help of bamboo extracts, keratin and collagen, use a tiny amount to keep things smooth as you blow dry your new cool bangs.

 Ultra long locks.

Nope, you didn’t read this trend incorrectly: very short and very long are on trend. This means all of those shoulder-cut styles should choose their direction if they want to remain fashion forward. In stark contrast to pixie cuts and short bobs, lengthy, flowy and mermaid-like hair will reign popular.

Super long hair is a sultry look that can be pulled off with the right hair care and cut. If you want to maintain the length, you’ll need to make sure your hair is moisturized. The Keragreen maintenance mask with keratin, collagen, silk, and vitamin B5 will help to keep hair supple and strong to promote growth. While the Fortified serum was developed with l-cysteine to help keep your hair in an active growth stage longer, preventing shedding.

Crazy, beautiful braids.

Not only will braids continue to be stylish for 2019, but they will be more exceptional than ever. Fashion Week, a lot of designers incorporated braided hair into the runway looks. At Alexander McQueen, Gucci and Chanel, the models had wood-beaded boxer braid hair, and then a slew of tightly woven cornrows inspired by a powerful, pagan-like warrior.

Even if you’re not exactly schooled in the fine art of weaving your hair, it’s never too late to learn! With amazing classes such as the “Braiding 101” course coming to the Keragreen Academy, you too can easily jump on board with this trend.

Summer hair = Summer damage. Here’s how to fix it fast!

Summer hair = Summer damage.  Here’s how to fix it fast!

We just crept into September, fall is around the corner. Cooler weather is a sign of changes that need to happen to your hair care routine. I think it’s safe to say we love summer substantially more than our hair does! It’s time to undo the damage incurred and help your hair looks and feels its absolute best for the new season. When we think summer hair, we think highlights, beach waves and blondes. To me, all of that means one thing – DAMAGE. September is the perfect time to restore moisture and nutrients to your beautiful locks. Here’s how to do it with Keragreen!

Switch shampoo and conditioner!

While maintaining your hair moisture is important all year-round, it’s essential for cooler weather when your skin and scalp get dry and sometimes, itchy. The Keragreen Protein Shampoo and Conditioner are full of the essentials to get your hair back in tip top shape! Amino acids, vitamins, essential oils will all moisturize, rejuvenate and strengthen your hair.

Detox your hair and scalp!

Summer = buildup. The combination of sweat, styling sprays, sunscreen, sand, and more can also leave your hair feeling limp. The Keragreen Clarifying Shampoo works like a detox in a way for your scalp and hair, getting rid of any build-up and restoring natural nutrients. No need to overdo it on this one, just give your hair a clean slate again.

Incorporate a hair mask and leave in treatment!

Use a leave in treatment like Kera Hydrate every time you style and a deep conditioning mask like Kera Renew once a week, especially as the temperature drops even further. The colder temps, hats, and scarves can all bring the static to your hair at an alarming rate. Keeping your hair well-moisturized will save your it from sticking to your face and cold weather accessories. Kera Hydrate is formulated with Argan Oil and Bamboo extracts that will restore your hair without weighing it down. The Kera Renew Mask will renew your hair’s vitality and seal the cuticle to help protect against future damage.

Get a trim!

We all know this one, but only a small percentage of us actually take action. Even with the right products and tips, trimming off dead or damaged ends will always help your hair grow healthier and stronger. Sacrificing a few inches of length will be worth it in the long run!

Bring on September and your healthiest hair to date!

The Importance of Offering Services That Will Never Be “Do It Yourself”

The Importance of Offering Services That Will Never Be “Do It Yourself”

It seems as though everywhere you look these days, it’s DIY this and DIY that. Less and less is being left to professionals as the Do It Yourself trend takes over. You may have noticed this has already affected your salon profit margins but aren’t quite sure what to do about it. Clients seem to be applying color and toners, trimming bangs and appointment stretching like never before. Is it about saving a buck? Is it about convenience?  We as the professionals will never fully understand it. What we do know is that with “open to the public” suppliers offering professional products to non-professionals and thousands upon thousands of YouTube tutorials available at your fingertips it’s never been easier to see your stylist less and less.

With that in mind, it has never been more critical to your business’ success than to offer ‘salon only” services! Services that must be done by a professional in a reputable salon! Here at Keragreen we work tirelessly to ensure that our products are only available to licensed hair stylists who have completed our certification program. This means you will never see Keragreen products on the shelves of your local beauty supplier, nor will you see Keragreen services available at salons that have not been approved us!

This is how we ensure revenue from our products to your salon. Consumers simply can’t get it anywhere else! Rest assured that the Keragreen Smoothing System will never be available to the public. This has value in itself. While you can’t control how often clients see you or how they maintain their other services, we most definitely can control where they get their Keragreen Smoothing Treatment or Relaxer applied. Remember, this is money in your pocket!

If you are interested in adding value to your salon and trying our products for the first time or placing a reoccurring order, please do not hesitate to contact us at info@keragreencanada.ca

5 Ways to Project Confidence

5 Ways to Project Confidence

There’s almost no worse thing for a client than sitting down in a stylist’s chair, having a cape draped over your shoulders and looking into the eyes of a professional who does not project confidence. Now let me clarify, confidence and talent are two very different things. Having the education to know how to approach a situation and achieve a style is one thing, but do you look like you know how to from behind the chair? Remember that competence bears little relationship to confidence.

Here are 5 tips we’ve come up with to help ensure you look the part before you act on it!

  • Watch Your Posture – Remember, the client will always almost have eyes on you. Understand that the way you feel affects your body language. If you are feeling assured and confident you stand taller and straighter. When you’re feeling insecure you slump or slouch. But were you aware that the reverse is also true? Keep in mind your posture has a direct link to your brain and impacts your emotions!

  •  Play to Your Strengths – Think of past salon related success you’ve had. The bigger the better! Then remember the sense of power and accomplishment you felt. Hold onto that feeling of genuine emotion before approaching a client for their consultation.

  •  Loosen Up – You can build confidence by honing your ability to commit to a course of action. Your gut instinct is usually right! However, stay flexible and don’t tighten up if you’re forced to quickly change direction. Hair doesn’t always cooperate!

  • Be an Optimist – Is the glass empty or half full? It’s both. The only difference is where you chose to focus your attention. A positive, upbeat attitude is crucial for success. Spending too much time worrying about possible negative outcomes is a waste of your time and your client’s time. Formulate a game plan and go with it!

  • Embrace Failure – Now let’s say you formulated that plan, put it in motion, and the result wasn’t favorable. This is where you need to focus your energy on your knowledge over nerves! Don’t get down on yourself. Mistakes happen and hair doesn’t always react in a way we expect. This is all a natural part of learning and growing as a stylist. Now focus on what did go right and use those positives, paired with countless hours of formal and practical education to formulate a new and improved action plan!

How to Motivate Clients to Rebook

How to Motivate Clients to Rebook

Deliver Beyond Expectations Clients will only rebook if they receive exceptional service. Salons are a dime a dozen, what makes your salon and services special? Ensuring your client is happy when she leaves your chair is the first and most crucial step.

Offer to Rebook Remember, rebooking benefits you more than it benefits the client in some cases. Simply offering to rebook is something that is often skipped by stylists and their front desk staff. In most cases the client will not ask to rebook, you need to offer. Think about adding an incentive to get clients into the habit of rebooking. Once they start doing it, they’ll keep doing it.

Tell Them Why The dreaded “I’ll just call when I’m ready to book”. We all know this is code for “I’ll call in a panic 3 days before an event and try to squeeze in”. Most humans procrastinate, it’s in our nature. Let’s try to break this habit to reduce stress in both ourselves and our clients. If you’re dealing with a client that isn’t on a set cut or colour schedule and is avoiding rebooking, get them to think about the near future. Ask if they have any special events coming up. Wedding, birthdays and special events are your ticket to rebooking these types of clients. Use the event date as a point of reference and mention that booking ahead for the week of that event will avoid disappointment as your schedule fills up quickly.

Know When to Ask I find there are only two moments during an appointment where it’s appropriate to ask a client if he or she would like to rebook. If the client is in your salon for a cut or style, I would say the perfect time to ask is when they are at the front desk cashing out. This is often the responsibility of the receptionist. If there are booking incentives, make sure your reception staff is aware. If a client is in for a colour service, I find the best time to ask them to rebook would be during the processing time. Use this 30 minutes to make sure your client is comfortable. Offer a beverage or magazine but also make them aware that you value their time and don’t want them to have to stick around after their appointment to rebook.

Follow Up – Often clients are in a rush to leave and mention they don’t have time to rebook and they will call to do so. Don’t be afraid to follow up. Most clients will leave the salon with the intention of calling, but life happens and they never do. Make a quick call or send a quick personalized text, “Hey ______, I noticed you were in a bit of a rush so I’m just touching base to see if you had a second to book your next appointment. I just want to make sure I keep your hair looking its best!”

Use these tips and implement some of your own to get your clients into the habit of rebooking. Once they do, they’ll appreciate how stress free and convenient it is.

How to Boost Retail Sales and Profits In Your Salon

How to Boost Retail Sales and Profits In Your Salon

With beauty suppliers popping up on every corner, discount brands at unbeatable prices and diversion happening at all the main grocery and pharmacy retailers, how do you keep your clients shopping in your retail space and not the drug store? Here are some tips we’ve come up with to catch your client’s eye and get them shopping while they’re in for a service.

Sell Retail at Your Reception Desk

This is directed at your impulse shoppers. It works the same way the gum and chocolate catches your eye while you’re waiting to cash out at the grocery store. Don’t clutter the desk, just simply display a few travel sized items in a cute container. Remember to change the products monthly or seasonally to maintain interest. Did you know Keragreen offers 1oz bottles of our Protein Shampoo and Conditioner? They’re great for this type of quick sale.

Location, location, location!

Did you know that studies show a large percentage of people head to the right side of a shop or business upon entering? Without being conscious of it, people head to the right simply because most people are right handed. If sales are slow and space allows for it, consider this funny little trick and give it a shot!

Keep it Simple

Although you may know your retail products like the back of your hand, potential customers don’t. Keep it simple and try not to overwhelm them. Try using shelf talkers to clearly state what the product is and how much it costs. Did you know Keragreen offers shelf talkers for all of our retail products as well as many other marketing tools? Lastly, make sure prices are clear and visible. Potential customers are often too embarrassed to ask for pricing in nice salons.

Keep it Clean

Nothing makes a bottle of shampoo or hairspray look worse than a layer of dust. Keep clients thinking all your products fly off the shelves by keeping them clean! We as stylists know the reality of product shelf life, however put yourself in a customer’s shoes for a second realize that dust makes things appear “old”. Take turns dusting those shelves on a weekly basis, it’s basic housekeeping!

Educate Your Staff

If a customer is about to spend $30 vs. $4.99 on a bottle of conditioner, be prepared to explain the reasoning behind it. They will most definitely have questions and it’s your responsibility to have educated answers. Keragreen product knowledge sheets are available at any time, as well as plenty of information on our website to help refresh your memory and give knowledgeable answers. If you have a question, feel free to ask your sales rep or send us a quick email at info@keragreencanada.ca. Avoid saying “I don’t know.” Instead, go with “I will find out”. Make sure to follow through with that promise, they’ll be waiting. Also, speak about the products you are using. Educate your clients as you wash and style. They are more likely to buy something you’ve personally recommended during their appointment.

Buy During Promos

Lastly, and arguably the easiest trick we have to boosting retail sales profits is to buy on promo. Many fantastic suppliers (not just us!) offer seasonal promos or bulk purchase promos such as 6+1 deals. Keep your eyes out for them. You increase your profits, save money and often get products for free and all you need to do it purchase during a specific time frame? Yes, please! In addition, Keragreen offers monthly, holiday and trade show promos as well as discounted salon packages. Contact your sales rep or the Keragreen office to get more information!

4 Ways to Keep Your Salon Looking Great and Feeling Professional to Increase Revenue

4 Ways to Keep Your Salon Looking Great & Feeling Professional to Increase Revenue

Sometimes it’s the big things, but sometimes it’s the little things. Some of you may be wondering “What can I do to improve my space? The obvious would be things like, décor and paint. Although these things do affect the general ambiance of your space, what are the other things? What are the things that you may be overlooking? Well, we’re here to tell you! Follow these tips and watch your client base and revenue grow.

First impressions are everything!

We can’t stress this one enough. Put yourself in the shoes of your guest for a second. What does your salon feel like, look like, smell like as soon as you open that front door? Immediately after that, is your guest greeted? Introduced to their stylist? Offered a beverage? These are all crucial things to think about. They say first impressions are made in the first 7 seconds. Why not spend your appointment time focusing on getting to know your new client and showcasing your talents vs. trying to change their mind on the judgement they just made. Happy clients will return, and return clients equal more revenue for your salon.

Staff professionalism!

Body language and tone of voice are two things that are sometimes overlooked. An extrovert aggressively approaching an introvert will almost always make the introvert uncomfortable. Now we’re not saying leave your personality at home, our suggestion is just to tone it down until you get to know the type of person you’re interacting with. Mimicking their demeanor is an almost guaranteed way to make them feel at ease in your space.

Secondly, keep in mind not only how you say things, but what you are actually saying. Avoid using slang terms. Make sure front desk staff is using proper English. This might sound silly but I often hear certain words like, “Tip,” “Thanks,” “Hang on,” “Hey,” “Come on back,” “What would you like,” and the list goes on. Ideally we would instead use, “Gratuity,” “Thank you,” “Would you mind,” “Hello/Good Morning/Good Afternoon/Good Evening” “Please come with me,” “Would you like.”

Details, details, details!

Although it may seem unnecessary or insignificant, the little things matter. Clients usually spend the bulk of their appointment doing one thing; looking around. Be aware they are scrutinizing your stylists, other guests, but especially your space.

Although things like cleanliness are a given, what else can you do? Fresh flowers always seem luxurious. Think about placing a beautiful bouquet at the front desk or a couple blooms at each station. If you offer beverages, consider using glasses and mugs vs. paper and plastic. Not only is it environmentally friendly, but it adds a bit of class to the experience. Sticking with the theme of being environmentally conscious, consider using linens in your restroom instead of paper towels. Trust us, your clients will notice.

Don’t avoid the dreaded staff meeting!

Although you may be thinking to yourself, “My staff is great, we talk all the time!”. This isn’t the type of communication that is undeniably necessary to run a business well. It’s important to hold meetings with each stylist to inform them of what they are doing well and areas they could improve on. Once the stylist-owner relationship is weak due to lack of communication, it is almost impossible to maintain a work space of team players! In order to create a luxurious and professional salon and maximize your revenue, you need to have clear communication with the clients as well as your team. Remember, they are your backbone.

Put our words into play in your salon today and watch how things begin to change! Revenue will increase and you and your staff will be happier going to work everyday.
